Black Emanuelle (Emanuelle nera) is an Italian softcore film from 1975, the first in a series made to cash in on the success of the French erotic film Emmanuelle, which was released the year before. Like that film, it was followed by a long string of official and unofficial sequels.
In her first onscreen adventure, journalist/photographer Mae Jordan (Laura Gemser) (known to her readers as "Emanuelle") travels to Africa on assignment. Questions of her own racial and sexual identity come to a head as she observes the troubled marriage of her hosts, Ann (Karin Schubert) and Gianni Danieli. Matters are complicated further when Emanuelle finds herself in affairs with both of them, after which she flees Africa, only to be pursued by Gianni, who had earlier rejected her and ridiculed her advances.
A beautiful young American journalist, Emanuelle, is sent to Africa on an assignment by her editor. While there she enjoys a multitude of sexual partners, including Gianni, a rich Italian farmer, and his wife Ann, who tempts our heroine into a lesbian encounter. Drama ensues, as Emanuelle finds herself in the middle of a tribal orgy, but at the conclusion she is unable to relinquish the freedom she enjoys, rejecting Gianni’s declaration of love. This softcore classic from 1975 was the first of eight movies starring the beautiful Laura Gemser as the sex-loving Black Emanuelle.
